Months ago I began writing down ideas for TFMS 3.0.0 the idea is to begin a complete re-write of the TFMS core. Version 2.5 was really rushed out and then left as the older problems that plagued TFMS 2.1, partly because of the difficulty of extending the 2.5 code base and partly because of the need to focus on one project.
The project that won out was the Bravo Fleet Website (BFW).
Now the BFW is online we’re ready concentrate on the new TFMS core.
This time around we’ve decided to build TFMS 3.0.0 on the newly released ZendFrameWork this does mean that we’re limiting ourselves to PHP5 only servers, but that isn’t really a problem as far as we are concerned. PHP5 has been out for a couple of years now and is now considered the main version of PHP by php.net. It’s time for us to embrace the future and move on with PHP.
Additionally, we’re moving up to using MySQL 5.0 which is the latest General Release version of MySQL, Version 5.0 provides us with the ability to use views to build data- something we’ve wanted for a while.
The biggest new feature will be TFMS’s ability to consume and expose web services to allow you to pass data between your Task Force sites and your main fleet site - something we’re building for Bravo Fleet specificially but it will be an open format available for other groups to use.
Which leads me on to my next point.
With the Version 3.0.0 release of TFMS we will once again be releasing TFMS to the public for use on your task force sites. All we will ask is that users register their sites with us so we can maintain some kind of information on how many sites are using TFMS. We will link this information with our support system, so as you report issues we’ll be able to tailor your assitance to your unique support history.
This of course is simply a small over view of TFMS 3.0.0 a more indepth article will be written in the coming weeks as we finalise the release information.
Kind regards
Dan
