Hey there,

If you’ve visited the home page of Futility Soft recently, you would have noticed things have changed. One of those changes is the inclusion of the “other scripts” section. This section is comprise of several free PHP scripts that I (Marcus) used to develop. Although they are no longer developed, except for maybe the odd bug fix, they still have some functionality to give that you may find useful.

Click Counter Deluxe was the first script I ever released. It’s purpose is simple, track out going clicks. Though it’s not very advanced, it does allow for easy to use click counting. Features include IP address logging, and individual click counting, or counting of every click.

File Snatcher is a handy script that I wrote to help myself, and eventually released for anyone to use. It’s purpose is simple, to copy a file from one website to yours. An example of usage maybe copying an image you want to keep, or a ZIP file containing a script you want to install. Later version added handy features like a progress bar. Ohhh, nifty.

phpBB3 News is a more advanced script that allows you to pull posts from a phpBB3 install, and display them on a page. In short it allows you to use phpBB3 as a CMS or blogging software. Some of the features it includes is comments, avatars, and polls. An example of it’s use can be seen here.(Not all of the features are in use on the site however.)

Please feel free to download the scripts and try them out, if you need help support will be provided here, until someone imports that forum here.

As you may have guessed from the lack of updates, there has been a little hiatus in development. This has been mainly due to my real life commitments, not least of which was preparing for my MCP 07-270 exam.

Happily I can tell you I am now a Microsoft Certified Professional.

Unfortunately, this hiatus will have to continue for another few weeks as I am busy on another project. As some people may know FutilitySoft was responsible for updated the Bravo Fleet Website. Part of that responsibility lays in providing all of theh functionality requested by the BFA, which is where my hiatus comes in.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to finish my sadly neglected code for the next push of the site.

Fear not though, even this work brings us closer to TFMS’s release. The work I am putting in to the Bravo Fleet site will allow the data transfer facilities we’ve discussed adding to TFMS.

So, see you in a little while.

~Dan

FutilitySoft has installed vBulletins project tools on the forum today, and they will be trailing this software with the TFMS project. Normally FutilitySoft would rely on free-er* tools to do this task however the monkey writing this blog has been charged with writing a review of this software. So with someone else covering the costs FutilitySoft will manly stride forward in to the world of vBulletin Project tools and see what is going on with it.

So please, take a look around and let us know what you think.

With the release of TFMS 3.0.0 we are pleased to announce that TFMS will once again be released to the public, in the interim however TFMS 2.5 will not be released it remains an internal Bravo Fleet only release.

The main reason for us going back to public releases are the overwhelming number of requests we have had for the newer versions of TFMS, it would be evil of us not too oblige our loving fans.

However, in return for your recieving our lovely software we would like to ask for your help. We need you guys to tell us what you would like to see in TFMS 3.0.0, we can’t promise that everything you ask for will make 3.0.0 but we will sure as heck try to get it all in there.

Months ago I began writing down ideas for TFMS 3.0.0 the idea is to begin a complete re-write of the TFMS core. Version 2.5 was really rushed out and then left as the older problems that plagued TFMS 2.1, partly because of the difficulty of extending the 2.5 code base and partly because of the need to focus on one project.

The project that won out was the Bravo Fleet Website (BFW).

Now the BFW is online we’re ready concentrate on the new TFMS core.

This time around we’ve decided to build TFMS 3.0.0 on the newly released ZendFrameWork this does mean that we’re limiting ourselves to PHP5 only servers, but that isn’t really a problem as far as we are concerned. PHP5 has been out for a couple of years now and is now considered the main version of PHP by php.net. It’s time for us to embrace the future and move on with PHP.

Additionally, we’re moving up to using MySQL 5.0 which is the latest General Release version of MySQL, Version 5.0 provides us with the ability to use views to build data- something we’ve wanted for a while.

The biggest new feature will be TFMS’s ability to consume and expose web services to allow you to pass data between your Task Force sites and your main fleet site - something we’re building for Bravo Fleet specificially but it will be an open format available for other groups to use.

Which leads me on to my next point.

With the Version 3.0.0 release of TFMS we will once again be releasing TFMS to the public for use on your task force sites. All we will ask is that users register their sites with us so we can maintain some kind of information on how many sites are using TFMS. We will link this information with our support system, so as you report issues we’ll be able to tailor your assitance to your unique support history.

This of course is simply a small over view of TFMS 3.0.0 a more indepth article will be written in the coming weeks as we finalise the release information.

Kind regards

Dan
